Well tomorrow (or today if you’re reading this on Saturday morning) is the first day of the English competitive football season, and already I’m in a quandary. That long-planned trip to Silsden – with a lunchtime session in Keighley – has looked on the cards for a few weeks, but the early prognosis on the weather doesn’t look good. There’s rain in them there Pennines, so it could be prudent to look a tad further south, like the area round Brum for instance.
A brekky in the Briar Rose, a couple in the Wellington, then a short rail hop to either Tipton (looks a soul-less ground but handy for Sarah Hughes and some Holdens) or out to Alvechurch, where there’s a tasty-looking pub called the Weighbridge – and a game against Loughborough University, a team from my home town that I have yet to see play.
It looks like it’s going be a get up and look out the window sort of day I think (or maybe I might consult the BBC Weather website). How exciting!
